ECGBL 2024- Proceedings of the 18th European Conference on Games Based Learning

These proceedings represent the work of contributors to the 18th European Conference on Games Based Learning (ECGBL 2024), hosted by Aarhus University, Denmark on 3-4 October 2024. The Conference chair was Dr. Kristine Kilså and the Programme Chair was Dr. Rajiv Vaid Basaiawmoit.
ECGBL is now a well-established event on the academic research calendar and now in its 18th year the key aim remains the opportunity for participants from around the world to share ideas and meet the people who hold them. The aims and scope of the conference is to be a forum for encouraging innovation in education and for highlighting the potential of games to engage learners, enhance motivation, and improve learning outcomes across all age groups and educational sectors. The scope of papers will ensure an interesting two days.
The opening keynote presentation was given by Pietro Michelucci from the Human Computation Institute, USA whose topic was Gamified World: Blurring The Lines Between Education, Work, And Leisure. The second day of the conference will open with an International Educational Games Panel Discussion on the topic of Industry-Academia collaboration in Gaming and the future of Gaming in Education. The panel was moderated by Rajiv Vaid Basaiawmoit, Head of Sci-Tech Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Aarhus Univeristy, and the panelists were Rikke Toft Nørgård, Aarhus University, Luke Savage, Head of Education Epic Games, UK, and Professor Deb Polson: Director of Centre of Digital Ecosystems (CODE) at RMIT University, Australia.
With an initial submission of 213 abstracts, after the double blind, peer review process there are 101 Academic research papers, 12 PhD research papers, 1 master’s Research papers and 13 work-in-progress papers published in these Conference Proceedings. These papers represent research from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UK and the USA.
